This is a highly unusual and rare example of a US fossil lobster. This iconic animal is on land that can no longer be collected; this specimen is from an old collection. The specimen is nearly 100% complete, it has both claws and complete down to the tail. It has one walking leg preserved, the rest do not appear to be there or are further into the matrix. This is a MALE specimen, note how the one claw is significantly larger than the other. This specimen is approximately 7 1/2 inches long. This Large Chirostenotes claw was found in the Hell creek formation of Montana dated to over 65 million yrs old. Found on private land with permission. Chirostenotes was characterized by a toothless beak, long arms ending in slender straight claws, In life this animal was about 6ft long. Chirostenotes was a large Over-Raptor.
